Of course, there is no guaranteeing that you will win, even if you follow all these steps. But here are some tips for how you can give yourself the best chance possible of winning your Showmanship class:
~Act super poised and confident. Don't get stressed and on-edge. Sometimes things don't go according to plan, but the judge won't mind so long as you remain relaxed and composed. I recently saw a girl's rabbit jump off of the table, and she calmly went and picked it up, then brought it back to the table and continued. She got 2nd place out of over 30.
~Know what the terminology means. If you mention that you are checking for conjunctivitis in the eye check, you should know what conjunctivitis is. Don't mention terms you don't know how to define.
~Know your breed standard. Study from the SOP like a bible. Learn as much as you can for your judging comments.
~Practice with your rabbit every day so that it learns to behave well for you.
~Give tons of eye contact to the judge.
~SMILE. Not creepily. But a friendly, confident smile goes a long way. Judges want to see that you are a fun, relaxed, happy person. They don't want to see a robot.
~Always thank the judge after your routine. It's the polite thing to do. :)
